Somehow I seem to have ended up in the middle of a significant natural disaster with the worst floods in 5 years hitting Jakarta. According to the ABC 5 people have died (85 of Feb 18). Yesterday was the craziest day so far with up to 3m of water in some places. A woman who works for ICT watch, whose offices I am currently in, basically lost everything in her home. Flash flooding is expected in Jakarta in 14 hours according to the UNDSS and other agencies. I've got a flight out to Yogya tomorrow afternoon - am hoping that is not too late in terms of how crazy it gets - hoping it doesn't get too crazy. The waters were lapping at the gates of ICT watch yesteray afternoon. see pic attached and here.
